It’s been three weeks today that Ghostbird was officially released and I couldn’t be happier with the results and feedback so far! Thanks to everyone who has downloaded the theme and is using it for their websites! My favorite of which so far has got to be The First annual Denver No Pants Party! This really made my day
You Got to Start Somewhere
Ghostbird is the first theme that I released and quite honestly the first full-featured theme that I have ever created. That being said, I made a few mistakes along the way. Some of them are rather small and can easily be fixed without affecting people’s websites while others would have quite a large impact on current users. Personally, I do not want to impact users of Ghostbird in any way if possible. And I believe that it is …
Version 2
I’ve decided to start coding Ghostbird 2 beginning next week. I’ve learned a lot since I first started coding and there is enough that bothers me about Ghostbird to warrant a quick jump straight into a second version. Here’s the basic scope of things that I think can be done better and feel that is necessary to include in version 2:
- Move all html from functions.php into appropriate templates.
- Move pages navigation out of the footer and into appropriate templates.
- Remove all possible custom template tags.
- A new, light, blue design.
- Built-in customer support.
- Less “boxes” more whitespace.
- Add remaining post formats
Thoughts?
What do you think about this idea? What would you do in my situation? Ghostbird has been download 6,252 times already and a few of the changes listed above would affect many people’s website. I would be really angry if I got my website set up only to have to do more annoying work 3 weeks later. A fork seems like the most responsible thing to do in my opinion.
